.......41 messages of pure spam on xanga. What the hell?

Wednesday, February 04, 2009

Well kids, apparently even in your final semester of uni, there is opportunity for firsts. Tonight/Today marks the first time I ever pulled an all nighter and two things here! 1. I was able to stay awake and work during the hours of 3-6am. 2. In 53 minutes, I will have gone a pure 24 hours without sleep. I have never done any of these before, and its shocking I was able to do it now considering I'm older and doing much harder work. How you may ask did I do this? Well here comes advertiser Nezzy. For our graduation fund raising we run a snack cart and an item we sell is a starbucks energy drink. I never touched it because frankly my experience with energy drinks are horrible. This one is not only strong but tastes amazing, exactly like a creamy latte. It does a good job.

So yes with this type of dribble posts you can already guess that jury is looming. In fact its on Thursday, the 1st of 4 over the semester. It will be odd considering my profs gave me an hour long crit on Tuesday which was beyond helpful and productive, but at the end Jack says 'so yeah Thursday...we may have nothing to talk about.' lol, I don't care, I am still producing work and thats what matters. Back to my drawing board and my narrative composed of yes you read this correctly, mythical creatures! *zooms back into phenomenology and theory world!*

......go steelers!

I feel so dirty and wrong after typing that but I have to root for the last PA team. My team lost after an amazing fight, good season eagles, always next year.

I need to update this thing more often. A lot has happened since the last post.

With the end of studio came some unusual down time, as all that was left was my thesis and my women's self defense. The thesis has since then developed leaps and bounds, and is continually challenging myself as a designer which is always fantastic. I didn't speak about a grant I applied for vocally or at least to a lot of people because I'm very superstitious. The University offers a number of grants for undergraduate students working on projects outside the city and that requires money for travel. I applied for the Research Incentive Fund and wouldn't you know it, I somehow was awarded the grant. Yep kids, $1500 to go to Berlin and research my sites for my thesis. Which coincidentally I'll be leaving for in about *checks clock* 8 hours. I'll be doing loads of drawing, photography and general research....in the freezing cold and snow. Look out Europe, I'm coming home!

The end of the semester was otherwise very calm except let me tell you about my women's self defense simulation. Now a simulation is exactly as its titled, two guys (both were pretty big) in padded suits take you through three scenarios were they try to attack you. One was more...rape themed I want to say, but the adreniline of kicking the living shit out of those two guys was incredible. Now I know your thinking oh its violent its not good blah blah blah...it's a defense course, its meant to protect you in case of emergencies. I got the one guy really good in the nuts too when I couldn't move him, he fell like a ton of bricks. Afterwards I was actually sweating which is shocking considering each simulation lasts a total of 20 seconds. My instructor came to me afterwards asked if I was alright and I said 'Um Jon, I could really do some laps right about now, thats how pumped up my adreniline is'. Fun day.

So those holidays. Hanukkah was nice this year, odd because of growing seperations in my family but still nice. I had the apartment to myself for 10 days as my roommates went home for xmas to which side story. On xmas I nearly went to the theatres but decided not to because my local theatre wasn't playing Doubt. Good for me because later I found out there was a shooting at said theatre over, now get this and prepare to laugh...over a family being too loud in the theatre. Thats right folks, if your too loud you get shot in the leg. Strange world.

New Years was interesting. We went to our favorite bar in the city, where it was yeah open bar, top shelf, free buffet, and this was all well and good...except the bar was dead. In a place that can hold 100-150, maybe 30 people were there. This is due to scafolding on the building which makes people think its closed, but in truth we didn't mind. No lines to get a drink, and the owner came over to us, sat down had a chat and ended up giving us a top shelf bottle of champagne. Awesome. The night was good, I was actually sober by the end wich is good because Dave's girlfriend got palstered and ultimately ill. She couldn't sit, let alone stand, so we had to clean her up and after her...*shudders* then to take her outside, she slipped on the steps, sprained her ankle, turned into a crying drunk and it gets even worse. The cold was so brutal, and taxis just weren't picking us up. Q got so mad, and infuriated he pulled out a 20 and screamed to the cabs this is your tip if you pick them up. And of course they did, he ultimately had to do the same for me. Eventful new years, I'm glad I was sober. The day of New Years me and my roommates made a family esque dinner which was cute and bonding.

I've been catching up on tons of movies this past week or two and I can name the top three. Wall-E, In Bruges, and Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Yes I did see Dark Knight, yes it was good, but not in my top list.

Now we come to the present, where last few days I have been doing prep work for Berlin, and am about to leave shortly. I am sitting here, honestly killing time, because I am waiting for my professor to get back to me with notes on my intinerary and then off to get an adapter and finally a nice hour drive to newark international. I have started an academic based blog for my trip which I'll give you the link to. Feel free to read or disregard, your option. If you do choose to leave comments though...erm...be careful. I have professors who are looking at this.

Well all thats it for now, I am off to the land of beer and pork...what a great combination. Ciao.

Well the birthday has come and gone and yeah 23 does not feel a lick different then 22. The day proceeding my birthday blew a lot though. We had our final jury, and I didn't sleep in two days only to have an absolutely horrific jury. I hadn't been that mad in a long time. But I set it aside knowing what the next day had in store.

I got to go see my parents and my family which was real nice. My present from my folks and grandparents is a brand new 22'' LG lcd monitor. Its beautiful and my own personal precious. At night I went to dinner with a bunch of friends and then only a few of us went to the bar. Went to Liberties which is where I spent my 22nd and it was actually a quizzo night. The quiz master gave me a huge shout out on the mic and the entire bar cheered me on as I proceeded to down a shot. I got some free swag out of it too which is nice. A yuengling hat and t-shirt, sweetness. Now my memory gets pretty fuzzy here but I stumbled out of the bar, Erica holding onto me, and then proceeded as I promised earlier, to drunk phone call Mellisa and Missy. They enjoyed it....I think.

Obviously the next day I was hungover to hell but it was nice because later we had a bunch of people over and made a huge turkey dinner. It hit the spot and was a nice cure for the hangover wich managed to last all day. Its a sign I'm getting older lol. We had the kitties come over again and I am starting to melt around those things but! I shall not convert! I am still a dog person! The next night I went to dinner with my brother and his fiancee to this awesome place in the suburbs where I had some of the best mussels and beer ever.

In other news, now that studio is over I am solely focusing on my thesis and hopefully finding out this week the fate of said thesis. Its complicated, and I'm still on edge about it. Otherwise all is good, people continue to always make me laugh and lose my faith in humanity, and I could really care less. I'm almost lost what to do with all this down time but I'll just need to occupy myself with the gym, time to lose more beer weight. Speaking of, Erica is turning 24 tomorrow, so loads of fun shall be had.
